As we pick back up in our Roster Review series, we take a look at No. 9, the number shared by defensive back Ameer Speed and quarterback Nathan Priestley.
A veteran of the Bulldog defensive backfield, Speed has played in 26 games during his previous three years with the team, although he’s yet to make a start.
Ditto for Priestley.
The native of Los Angeles walked on with the program last year, and actually played in two games while serving in a backup role.

Ameer Speed
2019 Review
Speed played in 13 of Georgia’s 14 games, finishing the year as one of Georgia’s key performers on special teams.
In fact, the Jacksonville native was voted the co-winner of the Special Teams Most Improved Player of the Year award, given at the team’s annual post-season gala.
A former three-star recruit, Speed finished with five total stops, including a tackle in kickoff coverage against Florida.
2020 Preview
Speed will find the going tough cracking the lineup at defensive back, but he should once again be one of the key players on special teams.
You may see Speed get into the tail end of games in a defensive capacity, but with the depth the Bulldogs have accrued—especially at cornerback—getting high-stakes reps at the position will be tough to come by.
Fortunately for Speed, he’s proven to be one of the Bulldogs’ more valuable performers on special teams, and he’ll reprise that role once again this fall.
Nathan Priestley
2019 Review
Priestley saw action against Murray State and Arkansas State, completing the only pass he threw against the Racers for two yards.
Although he was unranked coming out of high school, Priestley is listed by Rivals as having offers from Colorado State, Montana State, and UNLV.
Although his action was limited, Priestley drew considerable praise from teammates and coaches for his performance in practice, proving his value as a scout team performer.
2020 Preview
Truth be told, Priestley could probably hold his own if given the chance, but those opportunities figure to be few and far between.
Georgia’s quarterback room is a lot deeper than it used to be with the addition of Jamie Newman and JT Daniels, not to mention D’Wan Mathis and Stetson Bennett.
The Bulldogs also added Nevada transfer Austin Kirksey and walk-on Jackson Muschamp, the son of South Carolina head coach Will Muschamp.
