Where do Dawgs turn now at wideout? Examining five options

Despite a strong push from the Bulldogs, Rivals250 wideout Romello Brinson announced his intention to recommit to Miami on Saturday evening.

For Georgia, this was the second miss on the wide receiver front, the Bulldogs having earlier lost a battle for Mario Williams to Oklahoma.

Given how recruiting has gone over the last few cycles, fans are rightfully scratching their heads and wondering, "What now?"

Let's try to answer.

THE FRONTRUNNER

No surprise to see Colzie sitting atop the list here when it comes to potential options. Even during his commitment to Notre Dame, the Bulldogs made sure to let him know he was a wanted man. Since reopening his process, he's seen the already strong attention ramp up further. There's been some concern about Colzie continuing to string out the process and dropping a top ten; many felt like Georgia was a lock and likely in line for a quick commitment. We're not buying into that yet, as all signs still seem to point toward Colzie sticking close to home at this time. The stakes have been raised by the Brinson miss, so expect the Bulldogs to press even harder than before.

THE FLIP CANDIDATE

Reynolds' commitment to Florida felt like it came during a bit of a lull in Georgia's pursuit. But now, the Bulldogs appear to be back in full force, and are in line for an official visit when the time comes. There was plenty of early love from Reynolds for the Bulldogs, and the proximity to home feels like it could be a strong asset down the line. Additionally, stealing from a hated rival seems to be something that Kirby Smart and company quietly relish, so that could make the opportunity to poach Reynolds all the sweeter and more important down the line. Look for Georgia to press to get him on campus when things open back up.

THE CONSISTENT FORCE

Thomas is one of those names that continues to sit on the board for several teams without the player giving a real hint of where he's leaning. Still, he's been on the radar for the Bulldogs for well over a year at this point, has ties to current players via Pace Academy, and is a fan of what Cortez Hankton is getting out of his wideouts. Notre Dame feels like it's prioritizing Thomas as much as any other team out there right now, but the Bulldogs have kept him warm for some time. If they decide to move in heavily, it feels like this could easily go their way.

HIGH ON THE WISHLIST

Johnson has received plenty of attention from the Georgia staff, including some lofty comparisons to NFL burner DeSean Jackson via Todd Monken, and he's mentioned plans to get to Athens when the shutdown ends. Given his ridiculous speed and raw ability, Johnson is a coveted piece for several teams, and the Bulldogs are certainly among them. Can they close it out, or will he stay close to home? When visits restart, expect to see the Bulldogs' staff try to convince Johnson that he's too important to their class to end up anywhere but Athens.

THE NEW OFFER

It's likely new faces and offers will emerge in the fall when the coaches are able to resume in-person visits and evaluations. But even in quarantine, the Bulldogs are leaving no stone unturned. That was clear with an offer on Thursday evening to Barnes. While he dropped a top five in late April, the shutdown could rewrite those lists. Barnes has already told us he plans to visit Athens when things reopen, so this could be a fresh start for everyone when the time comes. We'll monitor how Georgia pursues moving forward, but his is a name to know.
