INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Georgia defensive tackle John Atkins met with the press on Saturday afternoon at the NFL Combine. The gregarious defender was all smiles as usual and spoke for close to 15 minutes.

Here are five of his answers to some of the more interesting questions. You can watch the entire interview above.

What did you want to show the NFL people this week.?

Atkins: “That I can move. That I am more than just a nose guard. I have met with the Patriots, Titans, Houston, Dallas, Jacksonville, Detroit… a lot of them—informally. I show them this was the scheme that I was in, this is what I know, show them these are the blocks I am going to get and I know football.”

When did you think you could actually make it here to the NFL Combine?

Atkins: “I give a lot of credit to Roquan Smith. If it wasn’t for Roquan then

I wouldn’t have gotten noticed like that. See, Roquan won the Butkus Award and he won it because he had a good defensive lineman at nose guard who took two linemen for him.”

Speaking of Roquan Smith, why does he owe you cookies?

Atkins: “It happened on a Monday after the game. We had a big team meeting and Coach [Kirby] Smart put up ‘The Good, the Bad and the Ugly,” that was the film from the game. Roquan was on the good side and Kirby was like, ‘Yeah Roquan, I think you owe Jon Jon and the defensive line some cookies. They are eating up blocks for you.’”

What was the difference for you guys on the defensive line between the first matchup and the second matchup when you played Auburn?

Atkins: “To be honest, I think we went into that first game with the No. 1 seed and that target on our backs. We let it get to us. After they played us, they had thrown out all their plays at us. Then they payed Alabama the next week and threw out all their plays. So when they came back, we felt like we had their number.”

Who are the heir apparent guys for your defensive line that Georgia fans can look forward to next year?

Atkins: "I like Tyler Clark. I like DaQuan Hawkins and Jonathan Ledbetter. DaQuan is going to be a really good guy to watch next year coming up. Him and Julian [Rochester] will be splitting the nose reps and taking on the work load that I had. Julian was in there too."

What was your favorite game?

Atkins: "Tennessee and Florida this year… Two years in a row [2015, 2016], I got hurt against Tennessee on the same exact play, Play 15. The first year it was a toe, the second year it was a knee. But I didn’t even think about it this year because I was having such a good game."
