Following No. 13 Georgia’s resounding 45-16 victory over South Carolina, the Gamecocks’ head coach—former Bulldog player and assistant Mike Bobo—met with the media. He was joined by a few of his players to discuss their defeat tonight. The following are key bullet points from South Carolina’s media session.

…Bobo opened his press conference by praising Georgia for its dominating play this evening on the road in Columbia.

“Hats off to Georgia. They came in and dominated the game in all three phases,” Bobo said. “[Georgia was] more physical than us at the line of scrimmage, and it showed. Too many lost yardage plays offensively to get us behind the chains, and not enough explosive plays offensively. Defensively, the number one thing is, we couldn’t stop the run; our inability to get off the field on third down. Just a long night. Hats off to them.”

…Rushing for 332 yards against the Gamecocks, Georgia exceeded its game high for rushing yardage this season by more than 100 yards. Remarkably, the Bulldogs had four players who rushed for at least 75 yards each: James Cook (104), Zamir White (84), Kenny McIntosh (79), and Daijun Edwards (77).

…Short-handed South Carolina trailed 21-0 at the end of the first quarter before scoring 10 consecutive points. Its final score—a touchdown pass from Luke Doty to Nick Muse—resulted midway through the fourth quarter, with the Gamecocks trailing by 35 points.

“A lot of people were put on the spot, and they tried to make the best of things. Some seniors who usually don’t play got to do so today, so that’s also a good thing,” said Muse, a senior tight end, who made eight receptions for 131 yards. “But we didn’t come out with the win, so, that’s not something we want at the end of the day.”

…Making the first start of his collegiate career, Doty completed and impressive 18 of 22 passes for 190 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. However, South Carolina’s running game was stagnant, gaining just 83 yards while averaging less than two yards per attempt. After rushing for 59 yards on 11 carries last week against Missouri, Doty gained minus-15 yards on 15 rushes, including getting sacked four times.

“I think that’s a credit to Georgia’s defense. It came out and played hard and played fast,” Doty said. “[Georgia was] able to contain what we were able to do last week. They were just fast, getting off the ball. They did a lot of stunts. [Our] guys were getting lost.”

…Bobo agreed with his quarterback’s assessment of Georgia’s run defense, pointing to it as the primary reason South Carolina’s offensive line struggled.

“They’ve shut everybody down except for two teams—Alabama and Florida,” Bobo said. “They got a really stout run defense. They've got a good front. They’re athletic. They have size.”

…Notably, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart was spotted immediately after the game chatting with South Carolina’s starting nickelback Jammie Robinson. Robinson, a sophomore from Leesburg, Georgia, said he and Smart’s conversation was all about “respect.”

“He told me that I played good and told me, ‘good game’ and ‘good luck,’ and I gave him that back,” said Robinson, who led the Gamecocks with 10 tackles and also tallied an interception. “It’s just about respect. He recruited me in high school. I know Kirby Smart personally, so it was a respect thing. I gave him respect and he gave me respect back.”
