You don’t have to look far on social media or internet message boards to find opinions of Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo and offensive line coach Stacy Searels.

Radio host and ESPN/SEC Network analyst Paul Finebaum even commented about Bobo to an Atlanta radio station in February, creating a stir.

"I frankly believe Georgia's problem is at the offensive coordinator's position... Kirby Smart for as great as I believe he is, is being too loyal to Mike Bobo, and I would get rid of Bobo today...I think you could walk down Peachtree Street and get a better offensive coordinator than Bobo."

During Tuesday’s press conference to preview the start of spring practice, Smart was asked by UGASports what he thought of the criticism levied at the two assistants and whether he thought any of it was warranted.

“Yeah, to be honest with you, I don't get into it much,” Smart said. “I worked in a place for ten years before I came here, and it's my tenth spring, so that's 20 years that I really don't pay much attention to anything outside. I’ve got a lot of confidence in this organization, the foundation we've built. I've got the best staff in the country, and I have no doubt about that. I've got one of the most experienced SEC staffs there is, and to be honest with you, there's a lot of confidence in that. I have a lot of confidence in that.”

But no doubt questions will remain until the season kicks off next fall

The Bulldogs ranked next-to-last in the SEC in rushing offense, while struggling for most of the season getting off to quick starts.

Smart acknowledged there is work to do – on both sides of the ball.

“I’m sure the outside world thinks if you win every game, or you win a national championship, or you lose every game, the sky is falling, or that everything's hunky dory for us,” Smart said. “But with us, it's always an approach of how do we get better? How do we improve? The first way to do that is through recruiting, the transfer portal, and talent acquisition. The next is through looking at other things people do. Special teams were a big emphasis for us.”

Smart said the push to improve has already begun.

“We’ve spent a week on that in quality control. We spent each side of the ball, had two full weeks in, and then the week before spring break,” Smart said. “So, we’ve already really had three weeks, 15 days of work on each side of the ball to look introspective and out to see what we can do to be better everywhere.”
