According to Rivals.com's Neal McCready, Georgia has hired Tray Scott of Ole Miss to replace defensive line coach Tracy Rocker who is no longer with the program. UGASports broke the news that Rocker was no longer part of the staff yesterday afternoon.
Less than 24 hours later, Kirby Smart has Rocker's repalcemenmt lined up.
Scott was just hired away from North Carolina 39 days ago by Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze. It appears that Scott need not finish unpacking as he is now heading to Athens.
The official statement from Freeze doesn't mention Georgia as Scott's destination.
Scott served as the defensive line coach at North Carolina for the last two years. He was a graduate assistant at Ole Miss in 2012 ans served in the same role under Freeze at Arkansas State. He was the youngest member of North Carolina's coaching staff. Prior to joining the Tar Heels, Scott served two seasons as the defensive line coach at UT Martin.
The Bulldogs rushed for 289 yards against Scott's defense when the North Carolina faced Georgia on September 3 last season.
Scott was set to earn $375,000 on a one year contract at Ole Miss this year. He is also considered a top recruiter and will have his work cut out for him at Georgia as restocking the defensive line will be a priority for 2018.
Scott had a hand in landing four-star defensive tackle Xach Gill, Rivals 250 defensive end Jake Lawler, three star defensive tackle Jordon Riley and three-star wide receiver Tyler Smith of Georgia in the UNC Class of 2017.
