The number one goal of G-Day is to walk away with a healthy team. Every aspect of the game is designed to celebrate the program while also mitigating all possible injury risks. Still, there are some aspects of the game certain to increase offseason chatter. Here's what you can expect from G-Day 2019, based on video from G-Day 2018
Tight end receptions
Passes to tight ends are usually low-risk injury plays in spring games. With limited depth, Georgia needs all possible game action for tight ends to bring along younger players at the position.
Standout WR play
Wide receivers tend to see more action in spring games because the power running game is curtailed due to increased injury potential. There is no reason to have lineman bashing each other for four quarters. Matt Landers was the talk of the town at G-Day 2018. Will he repeat and have another solid performance?
Deep passing
The limited running game also gives quarterbacks a chance to connect on home run shots. We know Jake Fromm can hit deep passes. Stetson Bennett and Dwan Mathis will have the stage to show their skills in the deep passing attack.
Defensive dexterity
More footballs in the air means more possible interceptions. The battles between receivers and cornerbacks is one of the matchups in spring football that is worthy of attention. Georgia's young and talented group of defensive backs could get the Sanford Stadium roars going early and often.
Special teams
Some players do not go full speed in scrimmages. Kickers and punters, however, can operate in game mode. Fans should have a good idea about Rodrigo Blankenship and Jake Camarda's confidence in hitting their spots.
Trick plays
Coaches sometimes reward players with gadget plays in the spring showcase. These plays often will not be used in regular-season play. Last year, it was a wide receiver pass that fell woefully short, resulting in an interception.
Coach-player interaction
Kirby Smart gets more hands-on interaction with his team during G-Day. He will be in the spotlight with his energy and facial expression. We all know Kirby Smart is .GIF-worthy. He will have plenty of camera time simply because there is not always compelling action elsewhere.
