Solid with Dawgs

ATLANTA - When word got out around two weeks ago that Georgia commitment Shaquille Wiggins was starting to feel a little warm and fuzzy about the Florida Gators after a recent trip to Gainesville, Bulldog fans weren't the only ones asking what in the name of Champ Bailey was going on.

Apparently, Georgia defensive coach Todd Grantham and secondary coach Scott Lakatos were, too.

"Yeah, they asked what was wrong me, things like that," Wiggins said during registration for this weekend's Rivals Five-Star Challenge. "They freaked out a little bit, but I told them face to face I'm still a Dawg."

Still, Wiggins isn't putting an end to his recruitment just yet.

Should Bulldog fans be worried?

"No, they shouldn't be worried about me too much. I'm still 100 percent to the University of Georgia, that's where my heart is," he said. "But like I said, I'm going to continue to look at other schools, because you never know what can happen up until Signing Day. I just want to keep my options open, just look, but still be 100 percent to Georgia."

Wiggins - who will room at the Challenge with Alabama commit Reuben Foster - said he expects to do a little recruiting for the Bulldogs while he's there.

"I have not looked at the roster," he said. "But once I see whose here, see who has Georgia offers, yeah, I'll do a little recruiting."

But Wiggins' sole purpose for being in Atlanta isn't to just do some recruiting for UGA. He's got some proving to do, particularly to anybody who doubts his skills.

"At first I started not to come, I've been working out doing some other stuff, but I felt it was right to come, show my skills and prove a couple of people wrong," said Wiggins, who measured in Friday at 5-9½, 160 pounds.

Wiggins promised he'll do just that - including to Rivals analysts who currently list him as a three star.

"You may not have that size, the height, or anything like that, but once you prove people wrong those eyes kind of open, they get a little bigger and start to second guess," Wiggins said. "People say you're this and say you're that. All you can do is come out and try to prove people wrong."

He's also anxious to prove himself against some of the top-flight receivers in town as well.

"A lot of people say I'm tiny and small. No, I'm not the biggest person in the world, but I think I've got the skill set to compete with any receiver in the nation, any team in the nation," he said. "That's what I'm going to try and do."
