The upcoming bye week is coming at a perfect time for the Georgia football team.
Georgia needs to get healthy.
The Bulldogs were already without Trenton Thompson and Reggie Carter for Saturday's 53-28 win over Missouri, but during the contest lost wide receiver Terry Godwin to a rib injury. He did not return.
Fortunately, head coach Kirby Smart said after the game that his early prognosis is good.
"I think he'll be fine," Smart said. "He had to go and get it checked out, go get an X-ray. He should be fine."
Godwin did return to the sideline late in the game.
Georgia's defensive line played the game short-handed.
The Bulldogs were without sophomore David Marshall and junior DaQuan Hawkins-Muckle did not dress out.
Georgia was already without Thompson, who his second straight game with a sprained MCL, but seemed to be moving around well on the sideline during the contest.
Sophomore Tyler Clark also had to leave the field for a brief time with an undisclosed injury, but was able to return.
"We've got a next-man-up mentality," nose guard John Atkins said. "You never know when that kind of thing is going to happen, but we train for this. We were prepared."
Although Smart would not offer details on either injury, it’s believed both players were injured during practice on Thursday.
Both Hawkins-Muckle and Marshall were seen practicing with no problems on Wednesday.
Hawkins-Muckle has played sparingly for the Bulldogs, seeing action in only two of the team’s previous six games. Marshall, however, saw significant action as a backup in all six of Georgia’s contest, making seven tackles.
They weren’t the only missing Bulldogs.
Carter missed his second straight game with what is believed to be a concussion, while linebacker Natrez Patrick served the second of his four-game suspension for his recent arrest for misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
Another Bulldog, offensive lineman Pat Allen had to be helped off the field with what looked like a knee injury. He did not return.
