If Jacob Eason is upset regarding his status at quarterback, he’s not letting his feelings show.

In fact, head coach Kirby Smart said the sophomore has been a team player all the way.

“I think he’s doing a great job. He’s been mature, he’s handling things the right way,” Smart said after practice Tuesday. “We talked to Jacob, and he’s working really hard to get himself back in position to be given an opportunity and he continues to grow with that.”

Bulldog defensive lineman Julian Rochester seemed to concur.

“He smiles every day. Jacob smiles every day,” Rochester said. “Coach is going to put the best player out there every day and I have trust in my coaches and the staff to make the right decision every week.”

After starting all but one game as a true freshman, Eason earned the starting role with a strong summer and spring, but after his knee injury against Appalachian State, has been relegated to a backup role in favor of true freshman Jake Fromm.

Although Smart has refused to name Fromm as Georgia’s permanent starter, actions would seem to speak louder than words.

Fromm has started the last five games for the Bulldogs, leading Georgia to its 6-0 mark, completing 57 of 95 passes for 618 yards and eight touchdowns.

As for Eason, at least for the time being, it appears he’ll continue to serve as the backup for Fromm.

“(Jacob) had a really good practice today,” Smart said. “The thing with him is he’s got to stay in-tune with it, he’s got to battle and fight, and so far he’s done that.”
