Dayne: Monty Rice had to follow a legend at Georgia in Roquan Smith. While an unenviable position from a comparison standpoint, Rice proved himself to be a violent presence and a defensive leader. Kirby Smart has often credited Rice's serious demeanor and professional-like work ethic for helping define the team's defensive identity. He started 47 football games for Georgia, making him one of the most consistent starters of the Kirby Smart era.
Brent: The key word Dayne uses is consistency. Over his 1,259 career snaps, Rice provided consistent play in the middle of the Georgia defense. Here are his grades by season:
- 2017 (106 snaps) - 70.4 overall, 76.2 run defense, 82.2 tackling
- 2018 (276 snaps) - 73.9 overall, 76.1 run defense, 87.0 tackling
- 2019 (575 snaps) - 73.5 overall, 67.9 run defense, 60.3 tackling
- 2020 (302 snaps) - 77.9 overall, 77.9 run defense, 86.5 tackling
