After facing Alabama, Georgia returns home for three straight home games—the first coming against Sun Belt Conference foe UL-Monroe.

The Warhawks are coming off a 5-7 campaign, but played some close games last fall, including a 45-44 loss to Florida State in overtime.

UL-Monroe

Versus Georgia: Sept. 26

Head Coach: Matt Viator

2019 Record: 5-7

Outlook

Fifth-year head coach Matt Viator heads into the 2020 season with some offensive holes to fill.

It starts with his own staff, as Viator takes over the offensive play calling after offensive coordinator Matt Kubik left for the same position at Southern Miss.

Although Viator was an offensive coordinator himself prior to coming to ULM, this will be his first such duties with the Warhawks, who will be breaking in a new quarterback following the graduation of record-breaking signal-caller Caleb Evans.

ULM does return running back Josh Johnson, who rushed for 1,298 yards last year, but he'll play behind a revamped offensive line that must replace four starters.

The team does have tight end Josh Pederson, who may be the Sun Belt Conference's best.

Defensively, the Warhawks must replace three key players from last year—leading tackler Cortez Cisco Jr., along with defensive linemen Donald Louis Jr. and Sam Miller—but do boast one of the best cornerbacks Georgia will see in Corey Straughter.

The 5-foot-10, 182-pound Straughter, who allowed the nation's lowest passer rating (13.5), lowest completion percentage (28.6), and fewest combined receptions for first downs and touchdowns (7), was named All-American by both USA TODAY (second team) and Pro Football Focus (third team). His 89.9 coverage grade ranked sixth-highest among all NCAA FBS cornerbacks, according to PFF.

Straugther headlines a secondary that could be the deepest position on the team, plus a bevy of other defensive players coming back from injury who Viator hopes helps his team's cause.

Five things to know

1. Tight end Josh Pederson is the son of Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson. He led ULM in touchdown receptions (9) while ranking second in receptions (43) and receiving yards (567) in 2019, while his nine TD receptions tied for first among tight ends (with SMU's Kylen Granson) in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision during the regular season.

2. Running back Josh Johnson ranked second in the Sun Belt Conference and 13th in the NCAA FBS in rushing, averaging 108.2 yards per game. The All-Sun Belt Second-Team selection also ranked among the NCAA FBS Top 20 in yards per carry (10th at 6.46) and rushing yards (18th with 1,298). He was stopped for a loss only nine times in 201 rushing attempts. Johnson opened the season with 69 consecutive carries without being tackled in the backfield.

3. Redshirt sophomore Colby Suits appears to be the favorite to take over at quarterback. In his first two seasons, Suits saw only occasional action as the backup for Evans, who finished his career with 34 consecutive starts. Junior college transfer Jeremy Hunt will also get a look.

4. Defensive end Matt Coles has grown two inches and added 25 pounds since arriving at ULM. He's projected to be one of the team's better defensive players.

5. UL-Monroe will be no stranger to Georgia teams. Along with the Bulldogs, the Warhawks also play Georgia State and Georgia Southern, rivals in the Sun Belt Conference.
