Georgia has once again beaten an SEC rival for a commitment.
Rivals250 inside linebacker Kristopher Jones has committed to the Bulldogs. He chose Georgia over Florida, Michigan State, and others.
Jones has been on Georgia’s radar for a little over a year. He earned an offer from the Bulldogs after camping in Athens last summer.
That offer immediately put Georgia at the forefront of Jones’ recruitment.
“The way they play defense is something I want to be a part of,” Jones told UGASports. “One of my dreams is to play at the professional level. I know Georgia is a place where I can achieve that goal, especially under the tutelage of Coach Schumann [Glenn Schumann, inside linebackers coach].”
Jones returned to Athens for a multi-day unofficial visit this spring. He spent most of that visit with Schumann, talking ball and getting an idea of how he could fit in Georgia’s defense.
“Coach Schumann is literally like an Einstein of football,” Jones said. “I can really tell he’s a student of the game.”
Jones also received some high praise from Georgia head coach Kirby Smart during the spring visit.
“Coach Kirby said to me that usually when you evaluate a linebacker, they’re either good at rushing the edge or they’re good in the middle. But he said I’m great at both,” Jones said.
After over a year of involvement, Georgia finally landed Jones’ commitment after an official visit June 16-18. He committed just a couple of days after leaving campus, with development at the heart of Georgia's closing argument.
"Just sitting down and just talking about some of the players they’ve coached," Jones told UGASports. "Just sitting down, even if they don’t go to the NFL, the stuff outside of football helps you develop as a person, whether that’s getting jobs, internships, stuff like that."
Jones joins Justin Williams as inside linebackers pledged to the Bulldogs. He's the 26th commit in Georgia’s top-ranked 2024 class.
