Georgia’s basketball team will be without one of its returning players after all as rising junior Osahen Iduwe has decided to leave the program and will transfer to another school.
A UGA athletic official confirmed the decision to UGASports.com before confirming the news to beat writers via email.
"Osahen and i talked late last week, and he has decided to transfer," head coach Mark Fox said in a statement. "We want Osahen to find the greatest fit for him both academically and as a player. I understand and support his decision and wish him nothing but the best. He has been a terrific teammate and will be missed."
Iduwe's decision wasn't the only news on the basketball front.
Fox also announced that Juwan Parker has been awarded a medical redshirt for the 2015-2016 season and will have two years of eligibility remaining.
"We are pleased that Juwan has officially been awarded a redshirt," Fox said of Parker, who did not play at all last year with the exception of an exhibition game against Armstrong State due to an Achilles he injured in January of 2015 at LSU. "We are eager and excited to see him back on the court."
Parker started 14 games that season before the injury, averaging 4.9 points and 3.7 reboudnds.
At 6-foot-10 and 245 pounds, Iduwe played sparingly for the Bulldogs last year, getting in just 18 games.
The news on Iduwe comes after Fox recently indicated that he did not expect any turnover from the Bulldogs’ 2015-16 squad.
"I believe it is in my best interest to find a new place to continue my college career," Iduwe said in a statement. "I would like to thank my coaches and teammates, as well as the academic support staff that has helped me the last two years. I have very much enjoyed my two years in Athens and have built relationships that I will never forget."
The Bulldogs – who graduated two starters in Kenny Gaines and Charles Mann – signed three new additions for the upcoming season – guards Jordan Harris and Tyree Crump, along with junior college transfer Pape Diatta.
Although Iduwe leaving gives the Bulldogs one more scholarship that Fox could use for the upcoming season, at this late date, it's unlikely that will happen.
Iduwe only saw limited action in his two years with the Bulldogs.
As a freshman, he only saw action in 11 games with a season-high six minutes at South Carolina.
Last year, averaged only 2.7 minutes in his 18 games with just nine points and eight rebounds during that time.
