Postgame Notes

#6 Georgia Postgame Notes @ Tennessee - Oct. 5, 2013
*Overtime Win: For the ninth time in school history, Georgia had a game decided in overtime. With today's 34-31 win, the Bulldogs are 5-4 in OT including 3-2 in the SEC. Before today, the last OT game was the 2012 Outback Bowl, a 33-30 loss to #12 Michigan State that went 3 OT periods in Tampa. Today, Georgia won the toss and elected to go on defense first. On a 6-yard Vol run by Pig Howard, instant replay overturned a TD as the review showed he fumbled at the 1 through the endzone for a touchback. Then after three plays and zero total yards, Marshall Morgan made a 42-yard field goal for the win. Georgia has won four straight over the Vols for the first time since a stretch from 2000-03. The series is now 21-20-2 for UT.

*Murray Sets SEC Record and Leads Comeback: With a 24-yard strike to junior FLK Chris Conley on 4th-and-4 in the second quarter, senior QB Aaron Murray set the SEC record in passing yardage. He finished the game with 11,625 passing yards. Today, Murray went 19-for-35 for 196 yards and three TDs. Former Bulldog David Greene held the school and SEC records at 11,528. Murray also finished with 53 yards on the ground, including a career-long 57-yard run to the Tennessee 3-yard line. This run set up a 3-yard touchdown for freshman TB Brendan Douglas, which was the first of his career, that put Georgia up 24-17. Murray's previous career long was for a 35-yard touchdown against the Vols in 2010.
With 1:54 left in the contest and trailing 31-24, Murray led the Bulldogs on a 10-plays, 75-yard game-tying TD drive in 1:49. Senior FLK Rantavious Wooten led the team with a career-high six catches for 38 yards and two touchdowns including the one that tied the game with five seconds left.
*Morgan Goes Deep Again, Then Wins It: Sophomore PK Marshall Morgan connected on a career-long 56-yard field goal on Georgia's first possession. This is the longest since Morgan drilled a 55 yarder last week in the win over #6 LSU. It is the longest FG for the Bulldogs since Blair Walsh kicked a 56 yarder versus Buffalo in 2011 and the longest on the road in school history. The previous best on the road was 54. Morgan's field goal is the longest in Neyland Stadium history, the longest against Tennessee and the longest in the SEC this year. Then, Morgan won the contest today with a 42-yard in overtime. It marked the first game-winner by a Bulldog since 2009 (Blair Walsh 37-yarder vs. Arizona State). It marked the 15th time since 1942 that a Bulldogs made a game-winner with two minutes or less.
*Injury Report: Three different Bulldogs went down with right knee injuries and did not return. Sophomore TB Keith Marshall went down with one late in the first quarter. He was starting his second career game and first this year. Marshall finished the game with five carries for 33 yards (6.6 avg.).
Later, junior SE Michael Bennett had a right knee injury in the third quarter and did not return. In the final two minutes of the third period, redshirt sophomore SE Justin Scott-Wesley went down covering a punt for Georgia. Sophomore P Collin Barber left the game with a concussion following his blocked punt in the third quarter. Sophomore TB Todd Gurley did not play with an ankle injury sustained in last week's game.
*TB Fill-In: With the first and second-string tailbacks Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall sidelined, freshman TB J.J. Green filled in with a career-high 132 yards on 17 carries (7.6 avg.). Fellow freshman TB Brendan Marshall also got 10 carries for 25 yards.
*Second Punt Blocked: The Bulldogs had their second punt of the year blocked for a touchdown. Sophomore P Collin Barber had his punt blocked on Georgia's 13-yard line and Tennessee scooped the ball and ran it for a score. This tied the game at 17-all late in the third quarter. Barber also had a punt blocked versus North Texas that the Mean Green recovered in the end zone.
*Drew Warms Up: Junior DE Ray Drew now has three sacks in the last two games after recording a pair against the Vols. He came into the season with half a sack in his career. Drew finished with five tackles. Junior ILB Ramik Wilson is led the team with 15 tackles. This is Wilson's second career game with 10+ tackles. Junior ILB Amarlo Herrera had 11 stops.
*Starters: Freshmen FS Quincy Mauger and DB Shaq Wiggins got their first career start. Mauger started for freshman FS Tray Matthews. Matthews started the first four games but injured his hamstring in practice this week. The Bulldogs have started five true freshmen on defense this year.
*Captains: Conley, Murray, senior N Garrison Smith and senior SS Connor Norman were captains on Saturday.
*Up Next: The Bulldogs (4-1, 3-0 SEC) host Missouri at Sanford Stadium in Athens next Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for noon on ESPN.
