Player Countdown to Kickoff - No. 86

Spring Review: For the second consecutive spring, the walk-on from Connecticutt demonstrated he's got the ability to get down the field and has the hands to pull down passes as he showed in the G-Day game, snagging a pair of receptions for the second year in a row. Rich also received work at long snapper for the Bulldogs.
Fall Preview: Tight end is one of the deepest positions on the team, thus making it unlikely that Richt will see much action playing behind Aron White, Orson Charles, Bruce Figgins and Arthur Lynch. That's why Bulldog coaches started working the Gainesville native out at long snapper, where he will battle Ty Frix for playing time.
Derek Rich wears 86 for the Bulldogs, but is looking for 1. The Georgia native transferred to the Bulldogs from Connecticut and appeared in five games last season, but never caught a pass. He did catch two passes for fifty yards in the G-Day game this past April.
Nick Franks is a walk-on tight end for the Bulldogs. He is from Midway, Georgia which should be a town next to Between, Georgia on Highway 78.
Barry Wilson wore 86 for the Bulldogs in the early 60's. Wilson
was a defensive end and was the first ever captain for Vince Dooley back in
1964. He was also named second team All-SEC by the AP in that same year.
Lars Tate scored 86 points to lead the Bulldogs back in 1987. Lars scored 14 touchdowns that year and added a
two-point conversion. His last two touchdowns that year came against Georgia Tech on runs of 28 and 44 yards as Georgia won 30-22.
Rodney Hampton was the last great rusher for Vince Dooley and the first one for Ray Goff. The future NFL star averaged
86 rush yards per game for his three-year career at Georgia from 1987 to 1989. It is the 5th highest total behind some pretty good Bulldogs: Herschel Walker, Knowshon Moreno, Garrison Hearst and Robert Edwards.
In 1942, Hall of Famer
Charley Trippi set the Georgia record by scampering 86 yards on a touchdown run against Georgia Tech. Three years later it was tied by Charlie Smith
on his run against Kentucky. Those two runs were bested three times, two of
which you read about in Monday's 89 article.
1986 - Georgia Record: 8-4
Head Coach: Vince Dooley
Captains: John Little, Wilbur Strozier and Steve Boswell
