Player Countdown to Kickoff - No. 85

Spring Review: After missing his freshman year with dislocated ankle, Lott saw his first actual practice time since September of last year. Although there was a little rust, Lott began to come on during the latter half of spring drills and is currently listed as the third team player at left end behind Abry Jones and Brandon Wood.
Fall Preview: Lott will receive further opportunity to improve his stock this fall, as he will continue getting looks at left end and possibly nose, where defensive coordinator Todd Grantham will look to build depth across the front line. Although it might be difficult o push Jones out of the starting spot, lott could challenge Wood for snaps. Either way, he will get a chance to play.
If you are scoring at home, Georgia now has two players in its history named Lott and just one named Little.
Marion Campbell wore 85 for the Dawgs back in the late 40's and
early 50's. He was a third team All-SEC tackle for three straight seasons. In the NFL, "The Swamp Fox" played for the 49ers and Eagles and was named to two Pro Bowls. He was the head coach for the Atlanta Falcons during two separate occasions and also the head man of the Philadelphia Eagles. In 1994, he rejoined the Dawgs, and became the Bulldogs defensive coordinator.
In
1985, Georgia faced Florida in the Cocktail Party. Florida came in as the number one team for the first time in the school's history and Georgia came in ranked 17th. The Gators were 15-0-1 in their previous 16 games. All of this, did not matter for the Dawgs as they rushed for 344 yards en route to a 24-3 victory.
Also in
1985, a fourth jersey was retired by the Georgia Bulldogs. Herschel Walker joined Frank Sinkwich, Charley Trippi and Theron Sapp as the only players with the honor. The jersey was officially retired during a halftime ceremony in which all four players were present on September 2nd in the season opener against Alabama.
85 was the number of field goals made in a career by the Bulldog that is
third all-time on that list after Billy Bennett and Kevin Butler. Are you surprised to know that the kicker is
Kanon Parkman? Kanon kicked for Georgia in 1991 and from 1993 to 1995. In his final regular season game of his career, the Stone Mountain native connected on a 34-yard field goal with under a minute left to give the Bulldogs a 18-17 win on Thanksgiving Day.
1985 - Georgia Record: 7-3-2
Head Coach: Vince Dooley
Captain: Peter Anderson
