Spring Review: Washington maybe be one of Georgia's top two or three best-conditioned athletes and really did an excellent job adapting to Sam linebacker in Todd Grantham's 3-4 scheme. Injuries have hampered Washington before, but no longer. Washington is in the best shape of his life and it showed with an excellent spring.
Fall Preview: Washington has a chance to give Georgia an outstanding combo at outside linebacker opposite Justin Houston, the starter at Will. Washington is one of the fastest players off the ball and will look to use that quickness to create havoc with opposing quarterbacks this fall. The Georgia coaches recently released a 4.29 seconds 40 yard dash time for Washington. Even if it was in track shoes on the Bulldog track, that speed will make him dangerous.

83 represents a player which most Georgia fans are very excited to see what he can do under the new defensive system set by Todd Grantham.
Cornelius Washington had four sacks and 13 QB pressures in a limited time last season. With his mixture of size and speed he might be able to double that this season.
Robert Miles was a 83 that went from walk-on to starter to national champion. He was the starting defensive end of the 1980 squad that held 6 of 12 opponents to ten or less points. In 2007, he was the UGA Athletic Department's Employee of the Year. He is currently Georgia's Director of Life Skills.
1983 was a big season for three Bulldogs. Freddie Gilbert, Kevin Butler and
Terry Hoage all were honored as All-Americans. Hoage took it one step
further finishing fifth in the Heisman Trophy balloting and at the time it was the highest finish by a defensive back.
All seemed lost for the 2006 Bulldogs. They lost four of five games and traveled to face one of the arch-rival and
fifth ranked Auburn Tigers out in the plains. Georgia used a strong running game and tenacious defensive to lead the Dawgs to an impressive 37-15 victory. Even though
Kregg Lumpkin led the way with 105 rush yards and a score, it was quarterback Matthew Stafford that had his biggest rushing day, by rumbling and bumbling for
83 yards and a 9-yard score in the 4th quarter. His next highest running total was just 35 yards.

Spring Review: Stowe is simply insurance to starters Blair Walsh and backup Brandon Bogotay for the Bulldogs. A member of the scout team, Stowe punted once in Georgia's 2009 G-Day Game for 35 yards.
Fall Preview: Stowe won't see any playing time for Georgia this fall and will continue to serve on the scout team.
Jordan Stowe wears
84 for Georgia. He is a walk-on placekicker and punter from Lilburn. He is listed at 6'5" and weighs 222 lbs. In 1970, the Georgia offensive line size averaged 6'2" and weighed 221.8 lbs (that is just 40 years ago).
Tight end Richard Appleby wore 84 in the mid 70's and was a major part of one of the biggest plays in Georgia history. In 1975, down 7-3 to the mighty Gators in the 4th quarter, Appleby took an end around and threw the ball to a wide open
Gene Washington. It worked and the play resulted in a 80-yard TD pass and
the Dawgs won 10-7. He was more than just one play, Appleby also led Georgia in
receiving three straight seasons and won Second team All-SEC in 1974.
Another tight end that wore 84 for Georgia was Coleman Watson. Why mention a player that caught just one pass for the Bulldogs? Well it was for a touchdown and it was also Matthew Stafford's first ever touchdown pass. So it's a play that both players will always remember.
Stafford and the number 84 has another meaning as well.
Eighty-four yards represents the longest completion of his Bulldog career. That one pass was to
Mohammed Massaquoi against Florida in the first quarter of the 2007 game, which broke a 7-7 tie. It didn't have the dance party the first touchdown of the game had, but a few hours after this play, the entire Bulldog nation was certainly dancing for joy.
Eighty-four has a rushing meaning as well. Eighty-four was the amount of yards the greatest running back ever had in his first collegiate game. Herschel Walker gained
84 yards on 24 attempts against Tennessee in 1980. He did not have a good average that game, plus other backs have had more yards, but that debut meant a whole lot more than numbers can ever show (just ask Bill Bates).
What about a 84-yard drive in Georgia history? Well in 1978, freshman quarterback
Buck Belue came off the bench trailing 20-0 to Georgia Tech in the 2nd quarter. The Dawgs fought back to win 29-28. The winning drive was a 9-play, 84-yard play drive that took 3:37 in the game's final minutes. After the touchdown and the 2-point conversion all was right with the Red and Black.
