Spring Review: There isn't a more telling indication of how

Glenn's spring went then this: he won the Offensive MVP Award given out at the end of spring camp. Glenn followed up a solid sophomore season with an great spring, proving to offensive line coach Stacy Searels that he's ready to have an even better junior campaign. Glenn continues to improve in all phases of the game, including footwork and quick hands.

Fall Preview: You really will need a road grader to move the 330-pounder out of the left guard spot for the Bulldogs. Solid to the core, Glenn is a potential all-conference performer who, besides being a key to the success of Georgia's run game, has a improved tremendously as a pass protector.

Glenn has been starting games ever since his freshman season of 2008. That season he was named Freshman All-SEC by the coaches. In his first two seasons as a Bulldog, the Riverdale native has 23 starts and with at least one more season left he should make plenty more.

Two more seventy-ones from the past have shown great leadership both on the field and off.

A 71 that made a lot of starts on the offensive line was Adam Meadows. Meadows came to Georgia as a tight end, but it was at the offensive tackle spot where he made his name. As a freshman, he started the last seven games of the season on the tight side and was named Freshmen All-SEC. After that season, he moved the split side and started dominating. He ended up starting 37 games for the Dawgs and was named All-SEC by the AP and the coaches in 1996. Meadows was a second round draft pick in the 1997 NFL Draft and played seven seasons with the Indianapolis Colts and after a couple years off, he came back and played a season with the Denver Broncos. Today, he honors his former Georgia offensive coordinator Wayne McDuffie by endowing a football scholarship in his memory.

Alec Millen was another 71 that was big and strong and helped lead the way for one of the great offensive Bulldog teams of 1992. The tall redhead started his collegiate career at North Carolina, but transferred and came back to his home state. He was a fulltime starter his final two seasons as a Dawg and was named All-SEC as a senior. He was drafted by the New York Jets and played briefly in the NFL before he started helping others in missionary work.

As for plays with 71 this one comes to mind. It was the 2003 Sugar Bowl and Georgia trailed 7 to 3 to Florida State in the second quarter when cornerback Bruce Thornton picked off an interception and darted 71 yards for the touchdown. The Bulldogs never looked back as they won 26 to 13 and finished the season an impressive 13 and 1.

In 1971, the Georgia defense was incredible. Nine of the Bulldogs' twelve opponents that season were held to 7 or less points. In the middle of the season, the Dawgs posted three consecutive shutouts. That was the last time Georgia has ever accomplished that feat. The three opponents with goose eggs were Vanderbilt, Kentucky and South Carolina.

There is not a 72 currently on the Bulldogs roster. Most 72's throughout Georgia's history have been offensive lineman which is true for the most recent number 72 for the Red and Black.

Vince Vance wore 72 from 2007 to 2009. Big Vince was 6'8" and weighed around 325 pounds. Vince spent one season at Georgia Military College before transferring to the University of Georgia. The tackle/guard went back and forth as a starter and backup throughout his career. A few months ago he signed a free agent contract with the Chicago Bears.

Another Georgia connection with the Chicago Bears which deals with the number 72 is Kevin Butler. We all know that the greatest kicker ever wore 5 for the Bulldogs and 6 for the Bears, but

72 was the number of yards on his last ever collegiate kick. The field goal attempt came against Florida State in the 1984 Citrus Bowl. Unfortunately for Butthead the field goal fell one foot short.

A 72 that was good for Georgia deals with David Greene. The former 4-yard starter holds many Bulldog records including career TD passes. As a Dawg, Greene threw 17 as a freshman, 22 as a sophomore, 13 as a junior and 20 as a senior for a grand total of 72.

In 1980, Herschel Walker won the National Championship and in 1982, Herschel Walker won the Heisman Trophy award, but many Georgia fans think that 1981 was his best season. In 1981 he ran the ball 385 times for 1,891 yards. Of his 385 times running the ball, 72 went for ten yards or more.
