Chalk up another victory for Kirby Smart and staff with the Thursday's addition of Houston County quarterback Jake Fromm, who flipped his commitment from the Crimson Tide to the Bulldogs after a secret visit on Wednesday.
Sure, it's not the kind of win that goes into the all important W column in the Fall, but, in the offseason, this is the closest thing you can get to that.
While I'm certainly not ready to proclaim that the student (Smart) has become the master (Nick Saban), Georgia fans have to be pleased with the direction the program has taken from a recruiting standpoint.
Think back in recent years. How many Alabama commits seemed like legitimate flippable opportunities, especially to the Bulldogs?
In two months on the job, the new staff has now done it twice, as they wrestled McEachern's Tyler Simmons away from the Tide on Signing Day.
So, will this early shift lead to less losses on the field to the Tide in the future?
Perhaps, but it's still a bit early to say that.
I think the main takeaway is that Georgia's new staff is recruiting at a fever pitch, and that's been evidenced both in the mentioned instances and in the continued pursuit of one-time Alabama commits Demetris Robertson and Mitchell Wasson, the latter of whom picked the Bulldogs over the Tide just last night.
When it comes to 2017, the Bulldogs have not held back either.
Aside from Fromm, they've shown no hesitance to pursue one-time Alabama commit Netori Johnson, as well as current Crimson Tide pledge Xavier McKinney.
In fact, we received word earlier this week that top running backand Tude commit Cam Akers was likely to flip to Georgia after his visit this weekend. While that didn't happen, Akers did just decommit from the tide moments ago.
Richard LeCounte and Jaden Hunter were both firmly on the Alabama radar before the coaching shakeup which resulted in their subsequent commitments.
Georgia has made incredible headway with 2018 superstar quarterback Trevor Lawrence and the the state's top 2017 running back Trey Sermon, both of whom seemed as though they were destined to head out state.
It may be the first offseason, but Smart, by continuing to challenge his former employer which just so happens to lead the nation's premier program, is showing the signature relentlessness that made him such a vital part of Bama's success and which made him such a respected commodity in the recruiting world.
Georgia staffers are tackling three fronts, 2016, 1017 and 2018, and with today's addition of Fromm, they are proving that they should be taken very seriously going forward.
