Note Worthy - Extra Hidden Stats

••• Jacob Eason was a big reason why Georgia won that last game against Missouri. The true freshman went 29-for-55 passing for 308 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. Eason went over 300 yards (courtesy of that last score) in his third career game and second start. If you haven’t, read already Patrick Garbin wrote a tremendous piece on 300-yard passing games throughout Georgia history earlier this week.

••• Another thing that sticks out is that 55 pass attempts. That is tied for the third most in school history. Georgia only had 43 pass attempts as a team in their first two games combined. A crazy stat I found was of the top six Bulldog performances in terms of pass attempts only Eason had a victory. I know you often pass a lot when your team is down, but I thought a Georgia win would happen at least another time in that group. If you want to know what those games were feel free to tweet me @dave_mc_stats.

••• Here is another stat that may surprise you. Check out these numbers when his team is leading compared to tied or trailing. You never want to be behind, but it looks like the youngster can take it.

••• Nick Chubb has been struggling over the last two games. Whether it’s been him, the blockers, the opposing defense or a little bit of each, the star running back doesn’t seem the same. Despite that he does have 365 yards rushing this season (Ole Miss allowed 334 yards rushing last week to Alabama). He has 2,659 all together and is in seventh place all-time on Georgia’s career list. Here are numbers four through seven.

••• Sony Michel is climbing the charts as well. He had 37 yards rushing yards last week and has 1,611 all-time. He needs just 46 yards to be in a tie for 20th place and 58 for a tie for 19th. While it is cool to be in the top 20, it is also cool to be associated with Charley Trippi (current 19th) and Terrell Davis (current 20th).

••• Fullback Christian Payne is second on the team with five receptions. He also added his first career touchdown reception. Over the last 20 seasons only four fulltime fullbacks have had touchdown receptions for the Bulldogs. Here are those four.

••• What about the players that are supposed to catch the ball? Isaiah McKenzie had another monster game. The Human Joystick had a career-high ten receptions to go along with tying his career-best 122 yards receiving and career-high two touchdown receptions against Missouri. He also had two rushes for 19 yards, a touchdown on the ground and two punt returns for 25 yards. Check out these career numbers

••• The 10 receptions in a game is tied for the sixth most in a game by a Bulldog. The last Georgia player to do that feat was Todd Gurley back in 2013 against Auburn.

••• As I mentioned above, McKenzie has three career touchdown rushes. Only Terrence Edwards and Terry Godwin have had touchdown rushes for the Bulldogs as wide receivers although Godwin was lined up as a quarterback when he did his last season against Kentucky.

••• Georgia had three big interceptions against Missouri and all of them came in the second half. Juwuan Briscoe had one and Quincy Mauger had two. Mauger has seven career interceptions and six of them have been on that road. This was his second career multi-interception game (the other happened two seasons at Missouri). By the way Kirby Smart had four career games in which he had more than one interception.

••• As I stated last week the last Bulldog coach to start his Georgia career 3-0 was Joel Hunt back in 1938. Hunt is also the last coach to start his Georgia career 4-0. W.A. Cunningham in 1910 and Herman Stegeman in 1920 are the only other Georgia head coaches to start their Georgia career 4-0.

••• In their last two games, the Bulldogs won by two points and one point. The last time the Dawgs won back-to-back games by two or fewer points each was in 1999 when they defeated Central Florida (24-23) and LSU (23-22) and prior to that was in 1990 when they defeated Southern Miss (18-17) and Alabama (17-16). Southern Miss had a young quarterback named Brett Favre… what ever happened to him?

••• The Bulldogs have a 32-12-1 series advantage over Ole Miss. Georgia has also won ten straight with its last loss to the Rebels occurring in 1996. In that game Ole Miss led 14-0 and then Georgia bounced back and took a 27-14 lead at half before the Rebels turned it around once more and won 31-27. That was Jim Donnan’s first season as head coach for Georgia (sort of like this is Kirby Smart’s first season). In Mark Richt’s first season in 2001, Ole Miss once again pulled ahead 9-7 before the Dawgs took over and won 35-15.

••• The last time these teams met was in 2012 and the Rebels took a 10-0 lead before the Bulldogs barked back and won 37-10. The way those games went is like how this season is going. Georgia is 3-0, but has trailed in everyone. Ole Miss is 1-2, but twice lost leads of 21 or more points.
