Earlier this week, I showed statistically how amazing Sony Michel was for the Bulldogs. Now it's time to look at Nick Chubb.
Chubb came to the Dawgs as the No. 35 ranked prospect in the Rivals 100, Class of 2014. The Cedartown, Georgia, native proceeded to dominate the Bulldog and the SEC charts like no other (except for one Herschel Walker).
From his first game in Sanford Stadium, it was obvious Chubb was special. If you recall, he came in the third quarter against Clemson and in his first attempt he went 13 yards. His second attempt was a thing of beauty as he went 47 yards for a touchdown (most of it came with just one shoe). Check the highlight out at the 4:44 mark.
Four years later and Chubb was in rare company:
● Chubb was also among the conference leaders in touchdown rushes:
● Here are Chubb’s rushing stats season-by-season. Impressive.
● Chubb was only one of four Bulldogs to rush for 1,000 yards in multiple seasons and one of two Bulldogs to have done this feat three times (Herschel Walker).
● His 6.3 yards per attempt is the fifth highest in school history, while his 8.1 during his injury-cut sophomore season was the highest ever by a Bulldog.
● Chubb had a pair of 83-yard touchdown runs. The first came against Charleston Southern in 2014 and the next came against Alabama a season later. Those are the eighth longest touchdown runs in Georgia history. He is the only Bulldog to be mentioned in the top-ten of that list twice.
● The 758 career rush attempts was also second by a Georgia player.
● The 1,547 yards rushing he had as a freshman was tied for the fourth highest of all-time by a Dawg. Check out this list…
● The 1,345 yards this season was the highest ever by a Bulldog senior.
● As for a single game, his 266 that he had in the Belk Bowl against Louisville was the second highest by a Georgia player (Walker had 283). It is the highest ever in a bowl game by a Bulldog.
● Chubb is the only player besides Walker (9) who had more than one 200-yard rushing game. He had three as you can see on a list of his five best:
● Chubb also had 24 career games with 100 or more rush yards which is second to you-know-who with 28.
● Chubb had more games with 100 or more rushing yards, 24, than games with less than 100 (23).
● He had eight 100-yard rush games against ranked teams -- including two of them in which he went over 200 yards.
● In the middle of his freshman and sophomore seasons, Chubb had a streak of 13 consecutive games with 100 or more rush yards which tied Walker’s school record.
● Here is a breakdown of Chubb throughout his career quarter-by-quarter:
● Here is how Chubb fared against Georgia’s regularly scheduled eight opponents:
● Chubb also shined in the postseason. Here are his numbers for bowl games including the CFP Championship:
● In terms of how many yards Chubb averaged per attempt throughout a game, check this out:
● Strangely enough Chubb never rushed for more than two touchdowns in a game. He did have two touchdowns 15 times during his career and the Dawgs were a perfect 15-0 in those contests.
● Chubb did have three total touchdowns in a game when he had two on the ground and one receiving against Southern in 2015.
● Speaking of receiving, Chubb’s career numbers catching the ball were 31 receptions for 361 yards and four touchdowns. Here are his four touchdowns through the air…
● Chubb had a career-best 5 receptions vs Florida in 2014 and in that game a career-high 59 receiving yards.
Simply put, Nick Chubb was a Damn Good Dawg.
