Hoop Dawgs sign a pair

When it came to making their college choice, both guards J.J. Frazier and Juwan Parker said Georgia felt like home.

"I really felt comfortable with Coach (Mark) Fox, Coach (Kwanza) Johnson and the rest of the staff," said Parker, who along with Frazier signed their letters of intent with the Bulldogs Wednesday. "When I went on my visits, the whole team just made me feel like part of the family, so I felt like it was the right place for me."

Frazier had known that Athens would be his home mere days after he received his offer from Fox back in February.

"It only took three days after I got offered for me to commit. Once I got the offer, there was nothing to really compare," Frazier said. "I always knew I wanted to go to Georgia, so it wasn't a hard decision. I wanted to be a Dawg from the start."

A native of Glennville, Frazier is a point guard while Parker is a shooting guard from Tulsa, Okla.

Frazier is beginning his senior season at Faith Baptist Christian Academy in Ludowici. He averaged 26.2 points, 4.9 assists, 5.4 rebounds and 3.1 steals per game last season for the Crusaders, who won 33 games in 2012. The 5-9, 160-pound guard is considered the state's top prospect at his position in the Class of 2013.

"J.J. is a quick and dynamic playmaking point guard," Fox said in a statement. "He has the ability to create plays for himself and other people. I really like his natural instincts for the game."

Frazier also played AAU basketball for the South Georgia Kings from Hinesville.

Parker, meanwhile, averaged 20.5 points and 9.4 rebounds as a junior at Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa where he helped his team win the Oklahoma 5A state championship as a freshman.

He is rated the country's No. 39 shooting guard prospect according to Rivals.com.

Parker's older brother Jason starred at Tulsa from 2000-04 and was coached there by current UGA assistant Kwanza Johnson.

"Juwan is a very complete shooting guard," Fox said. "His ability to shoot and score will be welcomed on the wing. I feel good about the versatility he will bring to that position for us."

The early national signing period, which began today, runs through Nov. 21.

Fox's Bulldog basketball team returns to action Thursday night against Southern Miss (8 p.m.).

"We needed to add more backcourt players and I am excited to add these two guards to our team," Fox said. "Both are the type of student athletes who will be successful at UGA."
