Gray transferring after May

Logan Gray does not regret his time playing football for Georgia, but apparently it's become time for the two to part ways.

According to Georgiadogs.com, the the senior receiver has decided to transfer for his final year of eligibility following graduation from UGA in May.

Gray, a native of Columbia, Mo., told head coach Mark Richt of his decision to play his senior year closer to home while pursuing a Master's degree.

"I will graduate in May from UGA with my degree in Speech Communication," Gray told the website. "I plan on playing my last year of football while pursuing my Master's degree at another school, most likely close to home, where my family can attend all of my games. I would like to thank Coach Richt for giving me the opportunity to be a Bulldog the last four years, and sticking beside me throughout the whole experience. I would also like to thank my teammates for everything. They are like another family to me and I know I will be close with several of them for the rest of my life."

Richt wished Gray nothing but the best.

"I want to express sincere appreciation to Logan for his many contributions to our program the last four years," said Richt. "He's been an asset to our team and program as both a player and student and we wish him nothing but the very best."

The 6-2, 199-pound Gray switched to flanker from quarterback before his junior season in 2010. He played in all 13 games and finished with nine catches for 105 yards and one touchdown this season.

Gray also finished his career with 13 punt returns for 109 yards (8.4 avg.).

With Gray gone, the graduation of Kris Durham and A.J. Green's decision to leave early for the NFL, that leaves Marlon Brown, Rantavious Wooten, Tavarres King and Israel Troupe as the only returning receivers with any college experience.

Gray's decision could also cause coaches to consider the versatile Branden Smith for full-time action at the position.

The Bulldogs do return redshirt freshman Michael Bennett and have incoming freshman Chris Conley as an early enrollee. Georgia is expected to sign six players who also played wide receiver in high school - Malcolm Mitchell, Devin Bowman, Damian Swann, Chris Sanders and Sanford Seay. Justin Scott-Wesley will do the same on Thursday.

Gray could not immediately be reached for further comment.
