The last few weeks may have been rough for Georgia on the gridiron, but the Bulldogs kickstarted their recruiting momentum once again on Friday night as linebacker Walter Grant of Cairo High School announced he has committed to Georgia.

"That’s where I felt the most comfortable," Grant said. "I think that’s where I can make the earliest impact. It’s just where I see myself.”

Grant, who measures in a 6-foot-4, 225 pounds, choose between the Bulldogs and Crimson Tide of Alabama after whittling his long list of offers down to a final two.

A frequent visitor to Athens since the arrival of Kirby Smart, the three-star prospect last saw the Bulldogs when they hosted the Tennessee Volunteers. He'd also stayed overnight during the summer.

Smart's connection may have ended up being key, as the Georgia head coach calls the city Bainbridge home, which is a mere thirty minutes from Grant's house in Cairo.

“He comes from the same place I’m coming from," Grant said over the summer. "I know where I’m trying to go, and he already did it.”

Georgia now has 16 commitments in the class of 2017, with Grant becoming the fourth three-star rated prospect in the group.
