Don't look Ethel! Are Bulldogs focused on the Streak?

Stress? What stress?

That’s what safety Javon Bullard wanted to know Monday after he was asked if the “pressure” of keeping the team’s school-record 24-game winning streak intact was taking any kind of noticeable toll.

“Not at all. I don’t even know what win streak we’re on. We’re trying to win every game. We go into every game with the same mindset,” Bullard said. “It doesn’t matter how many games we’ve won, it doesn’t matter how many games we lost. We just try to win every game.”

As one might suspect, head coach Kirby Smart doesn’t have much time for worrying about the streak, either.

“I don't think about it a lot. I mean, what consumes me is how we're going to gain a yard, what we're going to do in this situation, what we're going to do at practice,” Smart said. “I can't speak for every kid on the team, but the focus is not on the wins and losses of the games.”

While Smart and Bullard may not concern themselves with any of that, Georgia’s current streak is impressive and speaks to how good the Bulldogs have been.

• Georgia is on a school-record 24-game winning streak that began with a 34-11 win over Michigan in the 2021 College Football Playoffs.

• The Bulldogs are also enjoying a school-record of 34 consecutive regular-season victories that dates back to a 31-24 home victory over Mississippi State. That’s the longest streak in the FBS.

Georgia has also won 23 regular season SEC games in a row, dating back to that same victory over Mississippi State. This matches the school record for consecutive SEC wins, which was also accomplished during a stretch from 1980 to 1983.

To all this, Smart simply shrugs.

“Like I've said all the time, that's going to come to an end. I've been part of a lot of streaks. That's going to come to an end at some point, and when it does, we'll worry about the next game,” Smart said. “I don't think you can be consumed with that thought process or think that way. You got to think about what you can do to help your team win.”
