Dawgs still on top for coveted linebacker prospect

ATLANTA - Georgia fans can breath a sigh of relief when it comes to Crisp County's Quay Walker, as the uber-talented linebacker still has the Bulldogs atop his list.

That doesn't mean that teams aren't still pushing, though.

“Right now, it’s Florida and Florida State," Walker said. "Georgia’s been standing out to me, but the other two are coming along. They’re texting me everyday, and they’re checking in with my family, too. That really stands out to me.”

Still, the Bulldogs have long been standouts.

“With the coaches, it’s no doubt," Walker said. "When I go there, it’s a great atmosphere that I really like, and I want to get used to it. I think it’s the coaches there. I’ve got a good vibe with them.”

If Georgia is so firmly atop, though, what's the holdup? A close friend's decision could be the deciding factor.

“I’m pretty much waiting on Markaviest (Bryant)," Walker said. "I want to see what he’s doing, and he’ll let me know how it is, so I’m waiting on him. There’s a high percentage we’ll play together.”

Walker isn't sure of where his fellow Crisp linebacker will head, but he's willing to venture a guess.

“In my honest opinion, I don’t know, but there are two schools I want to say. That’d be Alabama or Georgia,” Walker said.

Bryant choosing Georgia would likely clinch the deal for Walker, though, and, even if he doesn't, don't write off the Bulldogs.

“Yeah, no doubt," Walker said of joining Georgia if Bryant announces his commitment there. "I’ll still consider them even if he doesn't, though.”

That can certainly be credited to Kirby Smart's efforts.

“It’s great," Walker said of the relationship with the Georgia head coach. "Everytime I come around, it’s like we’re friends. Even my first time meeting him, it was like we’d met before. We chopped it up on the basics.”
