The Georgia Bulldogs picked up a big-time commitment Sunday night when five-star cornerback Branden Smith chose the Bulldogs over a host of other top programs.
four of the schools are good schools, good coaching staffs and good academics," said Smith, who is rated the fastest and best athlete in Rivals.com's cornerback rankings, during ESPN's live broadcast of the Under Armour All-America Game.
He then choose Georgia.
With the addition of Smith, the Bulldogs now have 17 verbal commitments. They closed out the season with 81 players on scholarship, and 13 have since departed, leaving the same number of available scholarships.
However, at least two players are still mulling over leaving early for the NFL.
Rising senior quarterback Matthew Stafford and rising junior tailback Knowshon Moreno said in Orlando, Fla., following the Capital One Bowl that they needed more time to make up their minds.
Senior defensive tackle Jeff Owens, who redshirted this past season with a knee injury, passed on going pro when assistant coach Rodney Garner assured him he was not taking a job offered by newly hired head coach Gene Chizik at Auburn.
Prior to Smith's commitment, the Bulldogs were ranked 12th in the Rivals.com team rankings.
