Dawgs get 2013 CB

With a desperate need for defensive backs in 2013, Georgia has landed their first cornerback commitment with in Sandy Creek's Shaquille Wiggins.
Wiggins was a standout during Rising Seniors practice at the end of December with his quickness and excellent instincts, and he has chosen play his college ball in Athens.

"I just committed," said Wiggins. "I'm going to Georgia."
Georgia offered the Peach State defender on January 28 despite the fact that he did not attend a UGA Junior Day event in which he was invited.
As it turns out, that offer, plus a visit to the Classic City on Friday was all it took to seal the deal for Wiggins.
"I took the trip today and spent a lot of time with the coaches, and I just knew," said Wiggins. "They told me how they need defensive backs for this class and how I could come in and compete right away."
The fact that Wiggins chose to not visit Athens for that Junior Day may have benefitted the Bulldogs in a major way as his visit on Friday gave him a chance to spend more time with the Georgia coaches.
"I got to spend time with all the coaches, "Coach (Scott) Lakatos, Coach (Rodney) Garner, Coach (Kirk) Olivadotti, all of them," he said. " We watched film and they just showed me how they want me and believe that I am an electric player."
Although a lot was said on his visit to UGA, the words of Georgia's Head Coach were the ones that made the biggest impression.
"Coach Richt told me that it is rare for a position coach, a coordinator, and a head coach to all be in agreement on a player," said Wiggins. "But he said that is exactly what happened here. They all wanted me there."
Wiggins was the first cornerback offered by Georgia in the 2013 class, and now he is its only commitment at the position.
Those circumstances are quite flattering for the Sandy Creek star.
"It feels good that I was the first corner they offered," said Wiggins. "Being an in state guy, it just tells me that the work I have done has paid off, and that Georgia is stepping up how they do things and really focusing on keeping the guys at home. I really like that."
With 2013 signing day just under a year away, Wiggins doesn't plan to sit back and enjoy the peace.
He plans on getting to work right away.
"The first guy on mine and Tray Matthew's list is Reuben Foster," said Wiggins. "He is committed to Alabama, but they had so many guys commit at his position last year. He could play anywhere he wants to, but we could do something special in Athens."
Speaking of Matthews, Wiggins believes that he, and the Newnan safety will do some great things between the hedges.
"Having a chance to join this class in the secondary with a guy like Tray Matthews is special," he said. "We can do something big."
Before taking the weekend to celebrate his commitment, Wiggins had a few words for Bulldog Nation.
"Ha. I got red on all my shoes," said Wiggins. "I'm a Georgia Bulldog."
