Dawgs add key JUCO commit at position of need

Georgia managed to offset the sting of missing out on linebacker Monty Rice Monday morning by landing an immediate impact player at the Dawgs most pressing position of need.

Mississippi Gulf Coast offensive tackle D'Marcus Hayes announced his commitment to Georgia this afternoon via Twitter.

Of Georgia, Hayes told us just over a week ago that they were selling playing immediate time. The Bulldogs are losing both their right and left tackles to graduation and there is no consensus as to who will replace those two on the line.

“They’re just telling me they need immediate help on the line," Hayes said. "They’ve got seniors that are leaving, and so I could make a big impact and be able to play.”

Unsurprisingly, it was a pitch that resonated.

“It would be pretty good," Hayes said. "It’s what you work for. You want to get out there and play.”

As for his thoughts on the Bulldog, Hayes admitted he knew little of them prior to the visit he took the past weekend to Athens.

"They’ve always been a pretty good team," Hayes said at the time. "I can tell they need guys to come in and help. It’s not necessarily to rebuild, but it’s to get it back on track. They said I could play either side, but I’m mainly being considered at left tackle.”

In addition to his filling a positional need, Hayes also has longer term solution potential as opposed to many JUCO players.

“I have two years of eligibility, and I still have a redshirt,” he said.

More to come.
