UPDATE: Change in reps coming for QBs

Is there change in how Georgia’s three quarterbacks are divvying up the reps in practice heading into Saturday’s second scrimmage at Sanford Stadium?

It certainly seems that way.

Earlier Wednesday, multiple sources told UGASports.com that freshman Jacob Eason would be getting more reps with the first team offense this week.

During a morning radio interview with 680 The Fan, head coach Kirby Smart seemed to suggest that might indeed be the case.

“Before it was almost equal, now it’s not exactly equal,” Smart said. “Now it’s going to be a situation where every guy is going to get a chance to work with each group, but not at the same reps.”

So what does all this mean?

No, it does not mean Eason has won the job, but according to our sources, Bulldog offensive coaches know what Lambert and Ramsey can do.

So in an effort to get a true idea what Eason is capable of with the first unit, coaches have decided to give him a longer look to see how he responds.

Smart said Wednesday on the radio he still hasn’t made up his mind, echoing what he told beat writers after practice on Tuesday.

“I thought I’d be able to come back and tell y’all more but there were still a couple of bonehead decisions, and that’s frustrating,” Smart said Tuesday.

He hopes to have more answers after Saturday’s second scrimmage as he knows it’s starting to get close to the team’s season-opener on Sept. 3 in the Georgia Dome against North Carolina.

“It (last Saturday’s scrimmage) really didn’t lead us to any other different direction as far as where we’re going, but we hope this week’s practice will do that,” Smart said. “But we’re still giving each guy reps with each group.”
