Mike White has added a third player through the transfer portal Sunday, snagging Indiana native and former BYU player Kanon Catchings, according to our sources.
At 6-foot-9 and 212 pounds, Catchings was the nation’s No. 32-ranked player two years ago before starting 15 of 31 games as a true freshman for Cougars.
A big man with a perimeter game, Catchings shot 35 percent from three-point range (27 of 46), averaging 7.2 points for BYU as a true freshman.
He’ll have three years of eligibility remaining.
The still-developing Catchings played with current Bulldog Somto Cyril as a member of Overtime Elite in Atlanta.
The former four-star recruit scored in double figures nine times during his one season at BYU. That included a career-best 23-point effort in an overtime win over Baylor, a game that saw him go 8-of-8 from the field.
Catchings chose Georgia after visiting North Carolina on Friday. He becomes Georgia’s third pickup out of the transfer portal, along with Justin Bailey of Wofford and Jeremiah Wilkinson of Cal.
