Incoming freshman Adam Anderson made a couple of promises during an interview earlier this week with UGASports.

Both should make Bulldog fans smile.

The five-star performer from Rome figures to get an early opportunity at outside linebacker for the Bulldogs come fall, and when he does, there are two specific areas in which he intends to excel.

“I’d probably say energy and excitement,” Anderson said. “Most people have energy but at the same time you’ve got to play with excitement. If you can’t play with both, it’s not worth playing football.”

Based on what was witnessed in high school, Anderson has plenty of that to spare.

At 6-foot-6 and 227 pounds, already bears a physical resemblance to that of the man he’ll look to replace – Lorenzo Carter.

There’s just one small difference.

For as gifted and talented as Carter was coming out of Norcross High, Anderson’s resume is even better.

Along with new teammate Brenton Cox, Anderson is coming off a huge senior season, one which saw him make 63 tackles with 10 sacks, two forced fumbles and an interception.

The effort helped him earn the 2018 Bobby Dodd National Lineman of the Year Award by the Atlanta Touchdown Club along with his five-star status by Rivals.

Anderson was also the nation’s 12th-ranked overall prospect according to Rivals.

“The stars don’t matter but at the same time it feels good and it’s one thing to be thankful for,” Anderson said. “To have the respect to get the ranking is nice.”

Of course, rankings won’t me a thing when he arrives at Georgia in late May with the rest of the senior class.

But that suits Anderson just fine.

He’s ready to get to work. Bulldog coaches have already told him what they expect and how they intend to use him.

“A little more like Lorenzo did,” Anderson said. “I need to gain a little more weight, but that’s basically anybody who comes in.”

Anderson said he hopes to muscle up to 235 or 240 pounds before the season begins.

Although nothing has been promised as far as playing time is concerned, Anderson said he intends to do whatever can to make a positive impression.

“I’m not sure yet on that, but at the same time, it’s who wants to work the hardest,” Anderson said. “I’m going to try to do my best to learn the defense try to get better so that way I’ll have the opportunity to show my talents as well.”
