2022 rush end Darris Smith commits to Georgia

Baxley (Ga.) Appling County 2022 defensive end Darris Smith surprised most by committing to Georgia.

The 6-foot-6, 225 pound junior is all about speed, length and pressuring the quarterbacks. Kirby Smart and the staff in Athens saw that and liked it enough to offer October 20.

Smith waited a month and a half, but acted quickly on the offer to commit to the

"I have been thinking about it since I got the offer," said Smith. "I was on the phone with coach Smart about two weeks ago and we felt comfortable talking to each other. That is when I started thinking about committing to Georgia."

smart received another call from Smith December 3, and that is when he committed to the Bulldogs.

"I told coach Smart today about my commitment and I think he was surprised and excited about it."

Smith felt the same.

This has been his dream and he is excited about the opportunity to play between the hedges.

"I am just excited about committing to big school like Georgia and it feels like a big dream right now."

"I was always a fan of Georgia and that is a big reason why I committed. They are the home-state team, we run the same defense they do and the coaches are awesome.

"We have been talking about what it would be like there, how practice would be and things like that. I am excited about it."

Smith joins Marquis Groves-Killebrew, Cedric Washington, Deyon Bouie and Tyre West as 2022 Georgia commits.
