DESTIN, Fla. – Now that the underage possession of alcohol and false identification charges against sophomore Jonathan Ledbetter have been dropped, does that mean the defensive end will be eligible for Georgia’s season-opener against North Carolina?

If he knows, head coach Kirby Smart - who previously announced that Ledbetter would be suspended for the first contest - isn’t saying.

“We’ll find out the first game,” said Smart during a brief press conference with writers upon arriving at the Sandestin Hilton for the start of this week’s SEC Spring Meetings.

Smart was equally as vague regarding defensive tackle Julian Rochester and cornerback Chad Clay who were arrested back in April and charged with a felony of possessing a weapon (a BB gun) in a school zone and second-degree criminal damage to property.

Smart has yet to say whether or not either will be suspended.

“We’ll find out the first game,” Smart said. “They’re being disciplined internally.”

The same holds true for sophomore cornerback Juwuan Briscoe who was arrested for not having a driver’s license.

At least each player appears to be taking their punishments in stride.

“Each one of those kids is serving their punishment and doing what they’ve got to do in order to be where we want them to be, which is out there in the fall,” Smart said.
