Scott-Wesley says hes ready to be a Dawg

Justin Scott-Wesley admits he was a little concerned when he started hearing rumors about Mark Richt and his future as the Georgia head coach.

So much so, in fact, that the Bulldog verbal commitment started looking elsewhere, most notably Louisville where he took an official visit recently.

But after a sit-down Sunday morning with Richt, Scott-Wesley said whatever questions he might have had no longer exist and he is ready to begin his Georgia career.

"I'm 100 percent Bulldog," the former Mitchell County star said in a telephone interview with UGASports. "I'm 100 percent."

Scott-Wesley said Richt told him exactly what he needed to hear.

"He sat me down and he told me hey, he was going to be here," Scott-Wesley said. "Coach cleared up everything. It felt good to hear it from his mouth and I felt pretty comfortable with that."

With A.J. Green's future at Georgia very much up in the air, Scott-Wesley sees the potential for immediate playing time next fall.

"I think a lot of the guys (recruits) look at Georgia and think they can come in and have the opportunity to play right away," Scott-Wesley said. "Myself, I think I'm in a good situation with A.J. maybe leaving and Kris gone. As long as I work hard I think I'll have a good shot to get on the field right away."

This weekend's trip to Athens for his official visit was the first time Scott-Wesley has spent extensive time in the Classic City.

After arriving at 5 p.m. Friday, Scott-Wesley hung out with the other recruits before heading over to the Rankin Smith Student Center to meet with Georgia's academic personnel.

The night concluded with a trip to Richt's home for video games and dessert.

"I tried to get Coach Richt to take me on in Pac-Man," Scott-Wesley laughed.

Saturday, Scott-Wesley and the rest of the rest of the recruits watched the Bulldogs' morning practice in preparation for the AutoZone Liberty Bowl before heading over to the Classic Center for the annual Senior Awards Gala.

"The Gala was great, and surprisingly most of the people there knew who I was," said Scott-Wesley, who set the state record in the 100 meter dash last spring at the state track meet with a time of 10.35. "They were telling me how much they appreciated me being part of the Bulldog Nation. That was fun."

Scott-Wesley said he also spoke with former Bulldog Rennie Curran, and spent a lot of time with fellow commits Amarlo Herrera, Corey Moore, Chris Conley and Christian LeMay, along with coveted recruits Quan Bray, Jay Rome and Xzavier Dickson.

"This was my first time actually staying in Athens and I got to talk to some of the players, see how the coaches really are and how the place really is," Scott-Wesley said. "I think I've got a pretty good idea now of what to expect and what it's going to be like playing football for Georgia."
