linebacker Michael Taylor currently
has around 25 offers, but he is in the process of trying to narrow it down. The
6-foot, 200-pound big hitter is currently on vacation back in his hometown of
San Diego, California, but he told UGASports he hopes to have a top 10 soon
after coming back to Atlanta. The University of Georgia is likely to be
at or near the top of Taylor's list.
Another Bulldog target, Andrew Jackson cornerback Derek Owens, is
thinking about deciding at the end of the summer, before his senior season. The
5-foot-11, 180-pound prospect says that although he would like to play with
teammate and wide receiver Marquel Wade in college, Georgia's position
at the top will not be affected if it does not offer Wade.
Ball's brother pitches nightmare scenario
Jackson defensive end Neiron Ball is one of the best pass rushers in
in his words, "of course Georgia," starting next week. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound
athlete also mentioned that his brother Neland has been home from Athens, and
has let him know he is looking forward to playing with him come fall 2010.
Neland was a 2007 signee, who at 6-foot-6, 235-pounds, is just now beginning to
fill out his impressive frame. If he gets his wish, the two brothers could be
creating nightmares for quarterbacks from both defensive end spot in a few
years.
Hayes to visit UGA
Bakersfield JUCO defensive tackle Maurice Hayes was first featured here on UGASports at the beginning of May. The 6-foot-4, 315-pound prospect had an offer from Oklahoma State at the time, and more could soon be on the way. Hayes will be making trips to Tennessee,
Alabama, and Auburn in the near future, but his first trip will be to his
childhood favorite, the University of Georgia.
"I think they could be close to
offering. I know they have said they want me practicing with them next spring,
and Coach (Rodney Garner) feels I could be pushing for the starting job next
year," said Hayes on Friday.
Johnson in the
Classic City
Sandy Creek safety Isaiah Johnson will be making
his first trip to Athens since the Bulldogs offered him a month ago. The
coaching staff will have to work quickly to click with the talented defensive
back, as Johnson could be close to making his decision at Georgia Tech's camp
June 13th. The 6-foot-2, 175-pound prospect has nine offers total, including
other schools like Miami, South Carolina, and Oklahoma State.
Doubletake
Just as Georgia is looking at
the post-graduate ranks for help, a couple of underclassmen have been asked to
their invite only camp on Saturday, June 13th. Defensive ends coach Jon Fabris was at Jenkins County back in May, and
he was introduced to three of the best players Head Coach Chuck Conley has ever
coached. When Fabris later asked Conley how many offers they had, he
was shocked to find out the three players were all currently freshman!
Jenkins
County defensive tackle Jonathan Taylor is a 6-foot-4, 300-pound 2012
prospect who runs an impressive 5.2, along with a 345-pound bench, 490-pound
Squat, and a 290-pound power clean, all from a young man who just turned 15. James
Deloach is a 6-foot-2, 235-pound defensive end who has been timed at 4.8 in
the forty, and has a 315-pound bench, 450-pound squat, and a 290-pound power
clean, again all at the age of 15. He also sports a 34-inch vertical as well. Lavante
Evans is a 6-foot-5, 200-pound athlete who is not as strong as the other
two, but Fabris told Conley he loved the kids motor. He has been timed at
4.7 in the forty. All three started on the varsity as freshman, and the Bulldogs
will get the first look at these kids who still have three promising years of
high school seasons ahead of them.
UGA Target Chooses Sooners
Shockwaves were felt throughout the recruiting landscape as Scripps Ranch (CA) running back Brennan Clay let UGASports know that he had committed to the University of Oklahoma. While the chance that Georgia would bring the west coast talent across the country were likely slim, the fact that he chose Oklahoma over a few other schools opened up quite a few eyes.
Oregon came close to getting the blazing fast all purpose back a few months ago, and his teammate and quarterback Tate Forcier is currently enrolled at Michigan. It remains to be seen how this will affect Southwest Dekalb running back Ken Malcome, who had previously listed Oklahoma as his leader over the Bulldogs.
