Prospect Profile 2002: Marcus McNeil

By: Scott Ashton
Without question, one of the best big men in the
state of Georgia next season will be Marcus McNeil from Cedar Grove High School
in Ellenwood. McNeil, 6-8 and 280 pounds, stars on both sides of the ball.
“I want to play on the defensive line,” said
McNeil. “I like defensive end and I like chasing the quarterback. I have good
speed too. On offense, I am the prototype offensive tackle with long arms and
good feet. I have played basketball my whole life and that has really helped me
out in football.”
Last year as a junior, McNeil missed the first half
of the season because of a back injury he sustained while lifting weights
(squats) last summer. He claims it still bothers him but he is stronger and
better. McNeil, born in Fayetteville, North Carolina, currently lists UNC as his
favorite team.
“I have lived here most of my life but North
Carolina is my favorite school. I also like the Florida schools - Miami, Florida
State and Florida. Of those colleges, Miami is my favorite. I also like Georgia
and Georgia Tech. I just want to take my visits and see what is out there before
I make a decision.”
McNeil and his teammates have formed a club called
the FBI… and it doesn’t stand for the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
“Myself, Jonathan Palmer (6-5, 305), Shelton Bynum
(Jr. 6-4, 330) and Decarlos Myrick (6-4, 245) are all starters on the defensive
line and we call ourselves the FBI… Fay Boys Incorporated. Our mission this
season is to seek and destroy. So watch out for the FBI.” And watch out for
Marcus McNeil.

Editors Note: Marcus is one of the finest looking high
school players I have ever seen out of pads. He has a gigantic frame which lacks
the typical high school baby fat. Marcus is one of the top five prospects in the
state of Georgia - at a position where the Dawgs are begging for help.
