Starting rotation

Georgia’s starting rotation will remain the same for the second straight week, with Charlie Goldstein (0-0, 9.00) getting the call in Friday’s opener, followed by Brian Curley (2-0, 2.41) on Saturday and Leighton Finley on Sunday (2-0, 6.33).

It’s easy to see why.

Curley gave the Bulldogs five scoreless innings, while Finley allowed just one run in five innings during last weekend’s sweep at Florida.

The exception was Goldstein, who gave up his second three-run homer in as many games and comes into play with an ERA of 9.00.

However, as head coach Wes Johnson explains, those numbers are bit deceiving.

“You look at Charlie, he's given up six hits this year, and four of them have been homers. Three of them have been on fastballs. So, the fastball command for him right now (has been a problem,” Johnson said. “The other homer was on a change-up to the Cole Hage kid from Kentucky, who is a really good player. But you look at his numbers. They’re only hitting 167 off of him or something like that. We’ve just gotta get the fastball in some better spots at the right time, and I think you'll see him be fine.”

Finley’s confidence is better than where it was after his effort against the Gators.

“I think we're all feeling really good, you know, obviously we've been struggling a little bit, but I think we're going to be fine,” he said. “We have a great offense to back us so, you know, that's always a benefit.”

A little home cooking serves Christian Adams well

Christian Adams’ season got off to a slow start but after last weekend’s return to his home state of Florida, the transfer from FAU is back on track.

In the sweep of the Gators, Adams (.321-3-11) posted a 1.429 slugging percentage and batted .571 (8-for-14). He tallied three doubles, three home runs, and seven RBI.

“It was definitely my timing,” Adams said of his early issues. “But I was working a lot with the end coaches, and it helped me out. We went on to Florida, and it went really good.”

Adams is glad to be contributing to an offense that’s been the best in the SEC.

“We have so many guys on this team that everyone's going to pick each other up,” Adams said. “You’ve seen what we've done so far; it's gonna keep happening.”

Burnett, Zaborowski good to go

Look for Ryland Zaborowski and Robbie Burnett to both be back in the starting lineup.

The two missed last Tuesday’s game with West Georgia after both players came down with food poisoning on the bus ride back from Gainesville.

That’s good news for the Bulldogs.

Zaborowski has been one of the top hitters in the country, batting .467 with 14 home runs and 48 RBI, with Burnett hitting .383-13-41.
