Kris Edge, a four-year starting outfielder for Georgia from 1999-2002, is back with the Bulldogs as the director of baseball operations, head coach David Perno announced Tuesday.

Edge has spent the past two years as an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator at Middle Georgia Junior College. He helped the Warriors to a pair of playoff appearances including a 44-20 mark this past season and the Junior College World Series.

Prior to his stint at Middle Georgia, Edge managed and was an instructor for the Savannah Chain, a summer league 18 and under traveling baseball squad. Edge, 29, will handle alumni relations, camps and assist in various administrative duties.

He replaces Brian Jester who recently was named associate director of athletics at Oneonta State.

"We're thrilled to have Kris back with us," said Perno. "He was one of my first signees and a pioneer in getting the program headed in the right direction again. Kris was an important part of a couple very successful teams in his Bulldog career."

A native of Savannah, Ga., Edge was a member of the 2001 Southeastern Conference championship team that advanced to the College World Series. It was Georgia's first CWS appearance since 1990 and the first league title since 1954. The 2001 team posted a 47-22 record including 20-10 in the SEC. Then in 2002, he was a part of Perno's first team, and they reached the finals of the NCAA Atlanta Regional. It was the first time in school history that Georgia had made back-to-back trips to the NCAA Tournament.

A patient hitter in his playing days, Edge still holds the Georgia career record for walks with 157. He ranks among the top 10 in school history with 209 games played including 144 starts. He batted a career- best .320 as a senior. He earned a bachelor's degree in health education.

He is married to the former Brooke Ogletree of Villa Rica, Ga. They have two children, Kameron (5) and Aubrey (3).
