No more clubbin’ for Bellamy

There was more good news on Georgia’s injury front Tuesday – the protective club has come off Davin Bellamy’s injured left hand.

“I’m done with it, so that’s a plus,” Bellamy said after practice on Tuesday.

He doesn’t even want to look at it again.

“Oh no,” he said. “I want to get that as far away as possible.”

Who can blame him?

Although he continued to play after breaking a bone in his hand against Tennessee, Bellamy conceded the injury bothered him more than he originally let on.

“While I had it on, I didn’t want to make any excuses, but it’s always hard enough to play D-line in this league, especially with one hand,” he said. “It can get pretty tough. But it’s back to your regularly scheduled programming.”

Now that it’s off, Bellamy believes he’ll back to his old self. That’s a good thing, considering Georgia’s recent trouble affecting the opposing team’s quarterback.

“In the run game, when I was striking, I couldn’t grab and keep leverage on the left side so I was allowing people to get up in me,” he said. “When it came to pass rushing, the right side, I wasn’t able to stab and I wasn’t able to counter move because I couldn’t grab and that kind of forced me to be on one side of the field.”

That wasn’t all.

“It also slows the hands down when you don’t want to go power. You want to knock the hand down and close the hand down,” he said. “So, like I said, when I wore it, I didn’t want to make any excuses. But I’m definitely glad I got it off.”
