When Hutchinson Community College (Hutchinson, Kan.) defensive back Shattle Fenteng visited Georgia in May, he said immediately afterwards he knew where he wanted to go.
Just over two months later, Georgia extended an offer to the JUCO defender, and it didn't take long for him to jump on that offer from his home-state school.
"I will be attending the University of Georgia," Fenteng told UGASports on Friday.
Fenteng's decision came down to three schools in Georgia, Kansas State and Ole Miss.
In the end, it was Georgia's recent success and need for the four-star prospect that gave the Bulldogs the edge.
"The main thing for me is that I want to win," Fenteng said. "I mean, I want to win a national title and I think Georgia is on their way. They also told me that I am the number one cornerback on their board. I really like that. Not just that, but they also told me that if I was enrolled there right now, I'd have a great shot to play against Clemson in the first game, so I thought that was great, too."
Having grown up in Grayson, a small town less than an hour from Athens, Fenteng says that having an opportunity to play closer to home and represent his home state also played a role in his decision.
"It (being closer to home) played a big part in my decision," he said. "It is hard being away from home and away from my family. Now they can see me play and I can go home when I need to and want to. I'm ready to get back home. It also gives me a chance play for my home state."
That May visit to Georgia where Fenteng spent time with his former Grayson teammate and UGA walk-on safety Devin Gillespie, also helped the Bulldogs' case for the JUCO standout.
"That visit was great," he said. "I loved how nice the facilities were and how nice the stadium is. I liked it all. I liked how they have the finger print entry to the building and all the new technology, it was cool."
As Georgia's 17th commitment of the 2014 class and second at the cornerback position, Fenteng's commitment likely spells the end of UGA's recruitment of defensive backs for the current class.
Fenteng says that he will graduate from Hutchinson in May and will arrive to Georgia shortly thereafter, and that his recruitment, as far as he can tell, is over.
"I think anything can happen, but I'm done," Fenteng said. "Georgia is the move for me. If another school comes and recruits me harder than Georgia, then maybe, but I think I'm done."
Fenteng, who racked up 58 tackles, two tackles for loss, four interceptions and 16 pass break ups in his freshman season, also has a message for UGA fans.
"Just tell the Georgia fans that I'm happy to be a Dawg and I can't wait to win a National Title," he said.
