Ngumezi in transfer portal

Georgia sophomore Amanze Ngumezi has placed his name in the NCAA transfer portal, UGASports has learned.

The former star at Johnson High in Savannah confirmed his decision Thursday to Dan McDonald, basketball analyst with Rivals.com.

A 6-foot-9, 235–pound forward, Ngumezi started the first seven games of the year for the Bulldogs, averaging 6.1 points and 2.4 rebounds per game.

He was suspended by head coach Tom Crean back on Dec. 4, prior to Georgia’s game against North Carolina Central, and has not played since.

“There is a combination of factors involved in this decision, all of which are associated with his lack of personal awareness and the attitude expected of a Georgia Basketball player,” Crean said in a one-paragraph statement when the suspension was first announced.

Crean was asked about Ngumezi prior to practice Thursday and indicated at the time that he didn’t expect him returning to the team anytime soon.

Georgia returns to action Friday night at 7 against SMU.
