Knox leaving Bulldog program

UGASports has learned that backup safety John Knox is transferring to Georgia Military College for academic reasons.
Associate athletic director Claude Felton confirmed the decision Saturday evening.

The Statesboro native played in 12 games for the Bulldogs last year with two starts, and collected eight tackles.
According to Felton, Knox will enroll at the Milledgeville school later this month.
Knox was ticketed to backup at both free and strong safety. With Knox gone, look for redshirt freshmen Sanders Commings, Bacarri Rambo and Makiri Pugh to play an even more integral part in the secondary next fall. Junior Quintin Banks could also figure into a backup role, assuming he's completely healed from last year's MCL injury.
Knox could not immediately be reached for comment.
Georgia officials later sent out an email with head coach Mark Richt confirming the move as well.
