During Tuesday's press conference to preview spring practice, Kirby Smart had some news regarding Georgia wide receiver Colbie Young.

“Colby’s with us, Colby’s going to be practicing with us; he’s cleared,” Smart told reporters during his opening statement. “He’s practicing; he’s been working with us.”

However, Smart did not respond to a follow-up question asking if that meant Young was also cleared to play in Georgia’s opener against Marshall.

A UGA official later told UGASports that Smart's statement just covered Young's current situation regarding practice and was not a declaration that he will be able to play come fall. That will be determined at a later day.

Young has actually been with the team since December and practiced with the team leading up to the Sugar Bowl against Notre Dame, but he was not allowed to play until his legal status was resolved.

Young was initially suspended following his arrest on Oct. 8. He ultimately pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct, while the main charge of assault on an unborn child was dismissed.

The Miami transfer played five games for the Bulldogs last year, catching 11 passes for 149 yards and two touchdowns.

In December, following the favorable ruling for Vanderbilt quarterback Dylan Pavia, Young was granted an extra year of eligibility. He spent his initial season in college at Lackawanna Junior College.

Assuming he does play, this is big news for the Bulldogs, who also added Zachariah Branch from Southern Cal and Noah Thomas from Texas A&M.
