Navarro Junior College (Coriscana, Tex.) defensive lineman Quincy Vasser didn't waste any time when Georgia offered on Thursday as the 6-foot-4, 270-pounder committed to the Bulldogs just 24 hours later.
"I've been hearing from Georgia a lot and I have gotten letters from them for awhile now. Coach (Kevin) Sherrer and I have been talking and he called me yesterday," Vasser said of the Georgia offer. "I spoke with the defensive line coach, Coach (Tracy) Rocker, then Coach Sherrer came back on and said 'we are going to go ahead and offer you.' So I called them back and committed today."
According to Vasser, Sherrer was excited about the prospect of the JUCO defender making an immediate impact in Athens.
"He was happy," he said of Sherrer's reaction to the news. "He told me that he can't wait for me to get there so I can come in and help them out right away. He says they need some help on the defensive line and that I can come in and make a difference."
It was Vasser's familiarity with a couple of current Bulldogs that helped him make up his mind so quickly.
Playing in the Southeastern Conference, however, was also a strong draw.
"The main thing that helped me make my decision was that I went to Hargrave (Military Academy) with two guys (Leonard Floyd and John Atkins) who play on the defensive line at Georgia," he said. "They are great guys and great players, so I thought 'why not have the opportunity to play with them again?' Plus it is an opportunity to play SEC football."
So how exactly did Vasser, who originally from Nyack, New York, end up in Texas by way of Virginia?
"I went to Hargrave because schools like Rutgers and UConn told me to go to Hargrave to try out for their team," he said of his journey to Navarro. "I got there and I made the team and when I was coming out of Hargrave I had an offer from Syracuse but I didn't make high enough on my SAT. I was recruited to come out here (Navarro) and so I have been balling out here for a year and I will be leaving here in December."
Vasser holds offers from Georgia and Maryland and has been in contact with Ole Miss, Pittsburgh, Florida State, and Illinois.
In 2013 at Navarro, JUCO standout recorded 26 total tackles and 4.5 sacks in 12 games and will have three years to two at the next level.
