Jefferson decommits

Four-star wide receiver Van Jefferson of Brentwood, Tenn., made two headlines today. The first was when he jumped from No. 233 to No. 138 in the Rivals.com final recruit rankings. The second was when he announced that he was no longer committed to the University of
Georgia.

Jefferson's change of heart did not come as a surprise. His initial commitment back in August of last year came relatively out of the blue and he continued to visit other schools through the fall. Jefferson recently took an official visit to
Oklahoma, tweeting that the visit "was a success." Ole Miss and Florida have pursued him heavily. The 6-foot-1, 166-pound senior visited the Rebels in December and appears to be planning a visit to the Gators later this month.
Jefferson, the son of former NFL wide receiver Shawn Jefferson, announced his decommitment on Twitter shortly after the news broke.
I've decided to decommit from the University of Georgia. Still have respect for all the coaches and the University.- ⚡️Van Jefferson⚡️ (@Vj2kAllDay) January 20, 2015
Confidence in Jefferson's commitment sticking was further eroded when Georgia lost its offensive coordinator in December when Mike Bobo took a head coaching position with Colorado State. Georgia still has four other receivers committed: Terry Godwin, Darius Slayton, Jayson Stanley and Michael Chigbu. Godwin is a five-star prospect and the nation's top overall athlete. Slayton is ranked as a four-star prospect while Chigbu and Stanley are rated as three-star recruits.
