Deangelo Gibb’s absence from Georgia’s practice has been a mystery but, on Thursday, his cousin and fellow Bulldog defensive back J.R. Reed shed a little light on his situation.

“He’s doing his best,” Reed said after practice Thursday. “It’s just a medical reason.”

Although Reid would not speak on specifics, he said Gibbs – who has three tackles in six games this season – is doing okay.

“He’s going to be fine,” said Reed, who confirmed that Gibbs is still with the program.

Gibbs hasn’t been seen practicing with the team since prior to the SEC Championship against Auburn. He didn’t travel to the game at Georgia Tech, nor the SEC title game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium despite no roster limitations.

Earlier this month, head coach Kirby Smart said the absence did not have anything to do with Gibbs’ health.

The Bulldogs wrap up the Athens portion of their practice for the Rose Bowl on Friday before flying out to California on the 26th.
