Impression made on five-star tailback Kendall Milton

When Chris Milton was first shown a Twitter graphic featuring his son—five star running back Kendall Milton together with a photo of Kendall's late great-grandfather—the elder Milton didn’t initially know what to think.

Had the Bulldogs’ attempt to impress gone too far?

“One thing I said, if the rest of their personality, their actions, their words, if all of that did not feel genuine—if there hadn't been a sense of a family feel around the place already—honestly, I probably would have felt offended by it,” Chris Milton said in a telephone interview Sunday night with UGASports. “But the fact they are very family-oriented—honestly, if you haven’t met them, it was almost like a family reunion when we were dealing with those folks.”

Milton said the family was truly touched.

“When they showed it to us, which happened to be on the anniversary of his death, and we just happened to be in Athens, I wasn’t offended,” Milton said. “I was really touched that they would reach out and share that sentiment with us.”

Milton spoke upon arriving back home in Clovis, California, after spending the weekend in Athens for his son’s official visit to Georgia—their third after previous stops at Ohio State and LSU.

A mid-week trip to Alabama, which is set to begin Wednesday, will wrap up his official visits to his four finalists before making a decision hopefully in late July.

So, how did the Bulldogs stack up?

“I think with Georgia, they check all the boxes. That’s pretty impressive,” said Milton, who paused to stress that other schools recruiting his son did as well.

“I want to make sure that people don’t read into it that I’m saying he’s committing. But Georgia, they check all the boxes,” he continued. “The things we’re looking for as a family in regard to somebody picking up where we left off and finishing this ride. We would feel comfortable with him going there.”

While in Athens, Milton said coaches laid out the plan they’d have for his son should he ultimately call Athens home.

“In regard to him playing, they want to put him on the field right away. Coming in, we know Zamir White is there and they want to keep him as healthy as possible,” Milton said. “He’d likely come in to share carries with him, kind of a 1-2 punch while being groomed to be the feature tailback.”

Chris Milton said that would suit Kendall just fine.

“Kendall has no problem with it. He understands that a running back's career in the book of life—they already have the number of carries they’ll be able to have,” Milton said. “He’d rather get his carries where there’s an incentive attached to it.”

Milton confirmed that Georgia coaches intend to include two running backs in its 2020 signing class, something else his son has no problem with.

“Yeah, they made it clear they’d want to bring in somebody that would ultimately be his Robin,” said Milton, who said his son will have the final say regarding what school he attends.

“Kendall will ultimately make this decision himself,” he said. “We’ll all share our own concerns and all of that, but ultimately, he will decide where he’s going to college, and he’s made it clear that the biggest factor will be where God touches his heart to where he needs to be.”
