INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – When it comes to earning a job in the NFL, Quayvon Hicks said one of the keys for him is showing just how versatile he can be.

“It’s all about selling yourself to that team, any coach that sees that you want it, whether it’s special teams related or being utilized as fullback, or whatever,” Hicks said. “It’s important that you sell yourself and show your face and build that repartee with each coach.”

Fortunately for Hicks, he did a lot over the course of his Bulldog career.

Along with his duties at fullback, Hicks also played special teams and was used on a number of them during his career at Georgia.

But fullback is where he hopes to find a home. The only problem is, just like in college, fewer teams utilize the position than ever before, with Green Bay, San Diego, Atlanta and Tampa Bay some of the squads that do.

“I’m not afraid to go in the hole and meet a backer, but I can also run the ball, catch the ball; I think I’ve got a pretty well-rounded game,” said Hicks. “But special teams is also a big part, so it’s tremendous that you understand that at this level, you’ve got guys who take that (special teams) seriously, so you’ve got to find your place.”

Hicks laughed that anyone who plays fullback has to be just a little bit crazy.

“There’s no sugar-coating it, you’ve got to be tough, you’ve got to be an animal,” he said. “All the guys here who play that, God bless them. Hopefully the next 20 years I won’t have any brain damage. You’ve got to enjoy it. If you play fullback you get cool points in my book.”

Hicks said he’s also enjoying the opportunity to meet the various coaches and scouts.

“It’s a business. In order for somebody to spend money on you, most know who you are, but they don’t know you as a person,” he said. “That’s why it’s important to show them how you interact with people and that’s an important part of it. I’m just enjoying the process.”
